Poha Recipe

Poha ( Flattened Rice )

Categories : Breakfast , Snacks

Poha is very popular dish for breakfast / snacks. Poha or pohe is not only famous in Madhya Pradesh as “Indori pohe” or in Maharashtra as “batata poha” (flattened rice cooked with potato) or “kanda poha”(flattened rice cooked with onion), but it is very popular in other regions too as they are easy to cook and very filling.

It can be cooked with as many vegetables as you want or even without any vegetables like I did. But there are few ingredients which increases its taste and are common in every poha recipe.

I used roasted peanuts for making poha but this can be skipped if one really doesn’t like it too much or has peanut allergy. Peanuts only add crunchiness , so for that add any sev or bhujiya or small chopped onions.

It is cooked with very less oil and spices which makes it a healthy breakfast. In Madhya Pradesh a special Poha masala ( Jeeravan) is also available in markets which is sprinkled over a little bit before serving . That adds more taste to it. In some other parts of country people sprinkle Ratlami Sev , Bhujiya Sev etc. to add taste to it.

Always remember to take thick poha as thin poha will turn so soft and can break while cooking. So lets see how to make Poha-
